250 Years of Independence in the Northern Neck

On June 7, 1776, acting on the instructions of the 5th Virginia Convention, Northern Neck native Richard Henry Lee introduced in the 2nd Continental Congress a resolution “That these United Colonies are, and of right out to be, free and independent States… and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and out to be, totally dissolved.”

Virginia Resolved

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Northern Neck to celebrate this historic milestone. We celebrated with a weekend of fireworks, live music, reenactments, crafts, cooking demonstrations, food trucks, and a naturalization ceremony.

The Northern Neck is rich in stories and historical significance.

We aim to honor the region’s role in American history through events, lectures, conservation efforts and public access to historic resources.
